Winter is a time for bundling up and staying inside, which also makes it an ideal time for laser treatments. In Beverly Hills, Dr. Derek Jones, Dr. Naissan Wesley, and Dr. Jeanette Black encourage their patients to think of the colder weather as an opportunity to smooth out unwanted wrinkles, reduce the appearance of scars, and take care of other cosmetic imperfections.
Why winter? The season of long nights and chilly weather provides many advantages for patients considered a light-based treatment.
First, lasers can leave the skin especially susceptible to sun damage, so it makes sense to schedule sessions during a time when the sun is out the least. That said, remember that overcast skies do not make for UV-radiation-free days. Keep slathering on that sunscreen every time you set foot out your front door.
Second, colder and wetter weather encourages scarves and other skin-obscuring garments. Extra layers are perfect for covering up any signs of a recent treatment, as well as adding another barrier against the ultraviolet radiation that can cause damage.
Third, a rainy afternoon is the perfect excuse to stay indoors and not go anywhere or see anyone. While the side effects of laser treatments are minimal, there are some signs that take a short time to fade. It’s not like you need an excuse to choose to enjoy a cozy time at home in the winter, but some brief downtime after a laser treatment is as good a reason as any.
