What Is Daxxify®?
Daxxify® is a wrinkle treatment that targets frown lines—those deep, vertical “11s” that form between the eyebrows. When botulinum toxin type A is injected into the muscles that cause frown lines, it causes the muscles to relax, which in turn diminishes the appearance of the related wrinkles.
Daxxify®: The BOTOX® Alternative?
Many of our patients seek treatment with BOTOX® or one of the other FDA-approved wrinkle relaxers. Daxxify®, or daxibotulinumtoxinA-lanm, is the newest commercially available product that patients may select as an alternative. We are very proud that our office was one of the sites selected for the clinical trial that led to the FDA approval of this product in September 2022. The clinical trial investigated the effect of Daxxify® on frown lines, also known as glabellar lines that appear as vertical lines between the brows. The most notable finding was what appeared to be a faster onset and a longer lasting result. Many study participants exhibited a duration of almost six to nine months, when compared with the available products that typically last three months.
The longer duration was quite compelling to our physicians, who were among the first in the nation to offer Daxxify®, starting in December 2022. Admittedly, many of our patients are quite pleased with their normal treatment with their established wrinkle relaxers, yet the availability of Daxxify® may provide an added benefit. Some of our patients attempted a trial of this product and returned to their prior treatment, and several continue to request Daxxify® at follow-up.
